T20 World Cup 2022: Australia crowned champions

Warner, Marsh star as Australia claim T20 World Cup glory

Australia have been crowned T20 World Cup champions for the first time after defeating New Zealand in the final on Sunday.

David Warner and Mitchell Marsh starred with the bat for Australia, scoring half-centuries to help their side chase down New Zealand's total of 172 with seven wickets to spare.

The victory marks Australia's maiden T20 World Cup title and their first major ICC trophy since the 2015 ODI World Cup.

New Zealand were put into bat first and made a solid start, with openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway putting on a 56-run partnership for the first wicket.

However, Australia's bowlers fought back and took regular wickets to restrict New Zealand to a total of 172.

In reply, Australia made a blistering start, with Warner and Marsh putting on a 92-run partnership for the first wicket.

Warner was eventually dismissed for 53, but Marsh continued to score freely and reached his half-century off 31 balls.

Marsh was eventually dismissed for 77, but his innings had set the platform for Australia to chase down the target with relative ease.

The victory was a fitting reward for Australia, who have been one of the most consistent T20 teams in recent years.

They will now be looking to build on their success and continue to dominate the T20 format.
